Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Concerns.

'Significant concern' for the touring side after Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the playing area during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled at the MCG.

The touring camp indicated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and required time away from the action to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The series decider of the series beginning on 4 January begins on Sunday, 4 January.

England have been without strike bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and another paceman with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman as one of just three English batsmen who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he returned for the second day's play and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, on the final ball of his spell, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.

The English bowler was brought back for the Melbourne match after being left out the previous Test.
